How we collect rates

Every figure on this site comes from a real price, either reported to us or published by a videographer, and each one is reviewed before it counts.

Where the numbers come from

Advertised prices and paid prices aren't the same thing. A listed package is often a starting point, and the final bill can include add-ons. So we label every rate by kind, and each figure on the site says how many of each it contains. We don't take prices from marketplace listings whose terms forbid it, and we don't import other sites' "average cost" estimates: those are someone else's guesses, not rates.

We never estimate, interpolate or fill in a figure that wasn't reported or published.

How we review them

Each rate is checked before it's counted. We drop entries that are clearly not a wedding package, duplicates, and prices that don't match the coverage described.

How we summarise them

We show the median (the middle price) and the middle half (from the 25th to the 75th percentile), not an average, so one very high or very low price can't skew the picture. We round to the nearest $50, because more precision would imply more certainty than the data supports.

A state, city or coverage tier only gets a figure once it has at least 5 reviewed rates from at least 3 different videographers or reporters. One studio listing four packages counts as one source, so it can't set a city's price on its own. The national figure needs at least 10 rates spread across at least 5 states. Until then we say what's missing.

Anonymity

We never publish names, studios, notes or individual prices: only grouped figures. See our privacy policy.
